PostSubject: Video Editing Software   Sun Nov 09, 2014 11:13 pm

Hey all,

My kid has an interest in video editing, and it's been years since I messed around with it. I can't even remember what I used to use years ago, but I figure it would be outdated by now anyway. I've used virtual dub quite a bit, and while it's free, its not very user friendly.

I'm looking for something both user friendly and powerful, doesn't have to be free but would like some sort of trial unless it comes highly recommended.

Thanks for any help!

First person to come to mind that might know anything about this was Rareit although I've not heard from him in a while so not sure how busy he is.

Yea, I've used windows movie maker, along with sony sound forge in the past (with acid for audio), but that was years ago and i'm sure there is better now.

i used virtual dub a bit more recently, and it works, but i'd want something a bit more user friendly i think.

Premier Pro. Not free, but Industry standard. If your kid learns that, you're doing em a favour if they get into it more later on.

During my film degree I used Adobe premiere pro on my laptop but if you have access to a Mac try Final cut pro X, it is the easier to work with in my opinion

First i would consider how serious he is, if it's a passing fad then it can be a lot of money wasted, but if it's a long term thing for sure, then definitely consider something like final cut pro, im not sure what the retail price is these days but it's still widely used.

With CC it's actually worth buying into. I paid for a yearly subscription for both Photoshop and Lightroom. That just cost me $120. Considering they'd be updating the software quite regularly, it saves me from having to pay over $1000 for the full thing by itself outright.

If you have a mac, depending on where you go, Final Cut Pro is easy to use as well. I've steered clear of version X though, as it changed a lot.
