PostSubject: RK Pay-to-Win   RK Pay-to-Win EmptySun Oct 23, 2011 8:02 am

As many of you have heard, a NNGO warship was sank by two English warships. Good for them, was a good fight.

But was it?

Let's be real. NNGO is a bunch of easy going people who just lay back and play a game together.

England likes to be uptight and stuffy, and that's fine. They make perfect enemies for the NNGO.

Now England has a new weapon to which it uses against the NNGO however: rich people.

Look, I'm not going to tell anyone how to spend their money, or complain as if it is against the rules. It's not.

But there is no way in hell NNGO is going to spend $2,000 real life money on two warships just to compete. To us, that is just stupid.

The chips have always been stacked, but this kinda takes the cake. Someone spending thousands of dollars to make NNGO pixels sink makes us laugh and be sick a bit at the same time.

So what do you think? I been around this game too long, and don't really care too much. NNGO will build another ship, and I am sure England will buy more tokens to build another ship; but it kinda makes me wonder what the point of it all really is. Razz

Btw, if you rich slobs are reading this, I will gladly sell you my own ship for $1,000 bucks worth of tokens.... Razz

Completely agree and I think a good point was made elsewhere that $2000 would be better spent on charity. That is a lot of money to just throw away like that. And for what? You can be sure that those two warships will be sunk in the months to come, the fight goes both ways. Really silly when you think of it like that, all that money gone just like that, as if it never was there.

Well, it does go somewhere...to Celsius. And if this game were actually maintained and administered like a professional game should be, maybe I'd shrug my shoulders and move on knowing the NNGO is far more effective and they have to pay money just to keep up with us.

But, we all know this is one of the most poorly administered and developed games out there. Thus, it bothers me that anyone would pay $2k to Celsius unless it was to acquire the damn thing altogether!

We all know when NNGO rolls up and burns a town, the mayor and council will be in an IRL bad mood with everyone, and will probably never let it go.
And when we get all our charisma drained from us, or an admin favours the side of them, we log off RK, go out or play some DDO with some cool people.

Just sayin'

It's kinda sad in a way, but it's the curse of the free to play MMO.

They (the games) all have the same thing: you can play, scrape and claw to the top or you can buy your way up the ladder.

I don't particularly like it: I'm too cheap to pay that kind of coin for a game, but imagine how good it will feel when we send some of those very pricey yachts to the bottom of the ocean Smile

Gotta say, I have no probs with spending money on my hobbies and online games are part of those hobbies.

Not sure I'd spend 2k on tokens though for a couple warships in RK, although I'm fine with maintaining a lordship there.

There are better games to blow your cash on if you have it spare ... Two grand? Hmm, yeah ... the player is a bit nuts I guess but its their cash to waste. I once asked another player who I'd noticed was always buying his way up the levels how much he'd spent on RK and he confessed to 4k in a year.

Takes all sorts.

I think the same way you do Beth, buy some tokens now and then for lord ship or packs. Even bought some for money after the ship break we had. Tigo and I mostly share the cheaper way to buy them.
Like you, I don't have problems to spend some money on a hobby or on friends, even when they are i-net friends, so I give tokens to ig friends who are in problems too. Or just for a present, it all depends on the situation.

I don't mind buying tokens if I have some spare cash, although to be honest, it is usually my bro who buys them for me seeing as I am on less money than minimum wage lol! For someone to spend a third of my annual income on a game does sound a bit obscene, but then, at least it makes me smile so see American money leave the County and come to Europe

Different folks for different strokes I guess.

I've bought tokens in RK for lordship but that's about it. What I used to like about RK was that everyone had to work hard at some point to level up and actually own things. Spending that much money on a game like RK is just sad. What kind of real life does that person have Shocked

No thank you, I'll spend my money on a real game without cheaters and shit. The fact that people are willing to spend that much money AND that so many people cheat/hack RK is ridiculous. Edwin is a web developer and has told me how those guys do it, and Celsius are blind to it. If someone wants to hide clones and shit its not too hard.

There's a time for every online game for me, and RK's time sure is running out. Its always bad in the beginning cause you're used to logging in etc but when I look back at other games I quit, I never regret it. Its easy to find something else to do with the time. I thought to myself that I'll sail around, do something, get sunk and quit. Laughing I'll hang around for a bit yet, not like Telcara to just leave, she's been too awesome of a character and needs a epic exit Very Happy

Yes..the guy has boasted about it.

I have no idea why someone would pay that much money on this of all games. It's just sad that they are that desperate to "win" an unwinnable game. scratch

I think I've spent 15 bucks on this game over 6 years. Razz

It is hilarious and sad all at once, but whatever. It's kinda flattering, that someone would spend that much money on a game because of NNGO; but still, should have gone to a charity or something.

Sheesh, for 2k I'd sell my account! Laughing

Surprised though you might be, I think if it weren't for NNGO and Fury etc I'd be quitting too. It's a game, conflict tension and some action make it interesting.

As for pay to win, it's hard to see how rk avoids it. I quit stronghold kingdoms about a month after starting in it and having paid a few quid for their tokens because I was enjoying the game. I grew a bit, grew a bit more, got a few villages and then the big world of regional politics came to visit and I quit within 48hrs. It just became immediately obvious that I either signed over my game efforts to folk who were willing to pay more money or I spend most of my life in that game sweating every minute detail in order to even survive. I chose to just leave.

I don't think rk will entirely go the same way because the community and sub communities like NNGO are so strong. I do think that we'll increasingly see elections, victory and power bought. I buy tokens for my lordship, it helps the town and keeps me sorted for the army. For a while I'd buy enough of them to keep me in some cash for studies and stuff. Since turning level 4 I find my pockets are pretty full all the time as I can't be arsed studying so the token buying has died off. Given this kinda personal use of the tokens I's probably say that the only thing I'd like to see regarding tokens and pay to win stuff in rk is that folk weren't able to transfer tokens to other characters. I's say this despite my kids also having rk accounts since they relaxed the IP rules - I don't want to transfer my rl cash to those little shits, they already get plenty of it!!

Of course there's no chance celsius would ever do anything to cut off players from spending more on tokens so mibbe pay to win is gonna be more part of the landscape.

To me, all the effort they put in, makes it better when we beat them.

It's easy, when we lose, we shrug it off. We were having fun and we lost, no big deal. When they sunk our ship, it sucked, thats true, but it didn't really hurt.
When you sink his $2000 investment, it should hurt. That makes it easier for me to ignore it. Razz

I am surprised they just dont add buy a ship to the token menu and be able to skip all the trouble of having one built.

I dont mind support a game I play with an occasional buying of tokens, so I skip a bottle of wine now and then, I saw the value when I studied so didnt mind it so much, but I doubt if I would give up all my drinking to buy enough tokens to buy a ship......I'd rather steal the money Razz.

idk, and when we sink their 2000 dollar ship, they just build another one with tokens. meanwhile our ships take damage, our crews need to get paid; and we pay for all of this with our in game money.

i sure as hell am not buying tokens for rk, havent for years and refuse to do so.

it is the beginning of the end. its just not the same game as it used to be, and i've already moved on. Smile

its all rather silly, to play a game that is ridiculously stacked against you in all facets, but for now i'll go through the motions. its really boring.
