| So this weekend I had a 6 hour session with a few people I didn't know playing Dungeons & Dragons (well, a 3.5e version of the game). And let me tell you, it simply -owns- DDO or any computerized MMORPG. The most fun I've had sober in a long time! | |

| Tabletop ftw!
Though it was funny that we all had laptops out (with our character sheets on them, because paper is so messy!)

| I played it a few times. My experience of it: Someone asks: What does this spell do?Hmm blablabla-explanationA few turns later: Um.. guys, I think we've been reading the info wrong. In't it blablabla? No, that makes no sense! It must be blablablabla!?Game master: Fuck it! We'll continue like BLEH!
Other than all the stuff you got to read and keep track of it was quite fun (every who had lappies too them wit, lulz). It seemed more like a boardgame to me though, with all the figures to move around. My best memory is when the leader in my gang decided we might as well rest after each fight to heal. The GM didn't like that at all. They argued and the leader wouldn't bulge. So the GM plopped down a dragon as a surprise attack while we were sleeping. Can't remember if we survived or not... I was in a strange group. Only girl expect for a few times and the guys all older than me. They had been playing tabletop RPG for years while I was a newbie. They liked to try new ones so I never really got 'good' at one as they did. Had some make their own games too, two of which were released. Has me as a 'game tester' in acknowledgements.

| My experience was awesome - we had a couple guys who spoke in-character the entire time, some dwarf shaman obsessed with ale, and some bard who kept making me crack up the ENTIRE time. I'm still a noob, but I'm going to start opening up and giving my own character a little flare Though we do have a rule: NO GIRLS ALLOWED!!! Supposed to be like a guys' poker night Just nerdier. | |

| I dont really play D&D but I have gotten into 7th sea which is a swashbuckling tabletop that combines steampunk, sci fi, and pirates all within a alternate universe of something like Europe between 1500-1790's. What is really interesting about it is that its a D10 system in which you only use 10 sided dice for everything, turns out to be a really streamlined process. | |

| "Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction, fantasy, alternate history, and speculative fiction that came into prominence during the 1980s and early 1990s.[1] Steampunk involves a setting where steam power is still widely used—usually the Victorian era Britain—that incorporates elements of either science fiction or fantasy. Works of steampunk often feature anachronistic technology or futuristic innovations as Victorians may have envisioned them; based on a Victorian perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, art, etc. This technology may include such fictional machines as those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne."

I can think of Wild Wild West being steampunk. Also, there's a game of Facebook called Gardens of Time. Also, the Myst series. I have an old RPG called Arcanum that I'd reinstall right now if I wasn't busy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcanum:_Of_Steamworks_and_Magick_Obscura
It has a good/evil alignment but also a magic/technology alignment. If you use too much magic or technology, certain characters wont work with you.
