I read Fall of Giants by Ken follet and absolutely LOVED it. (and I rarely show strong emotions towards books Razz)

I would recommend this guy to anyone who is interested in history. Will read world without end after I finish ron chernow's biography of GW.

I had that in my hand yesterday in the store and then remembered I needed to read World Without End so I got that instead. It's definitely on my "to buy" list though. I loved Pillars of the Earth.

I literally stumbled upon it in JFK, didn't even know that writer or much about the genre, but I loved it and bought Pillars of the Earth and put it on queue

Have you read Alexander Hamilton by the same author? I bought it several years ago, because according to my grandpa who dabbles in geneology, we are related to Hamilton. I haven't read it yet; it looks daunting. It is a spider killer book for sure (832 pages Shocked ) Not that I have a problem with thick books, just that historical biographies of that length can get a little dry.

Read it. Not dry, that's why I love CHernow, he makes biographies very interesting. Hamilton's life is reads like a good movie, my favorite American founding father. I also read John Adams and Rockafellar by the same author, he's great.

I would agree that 900 pages of anything is hard, but these biographies are really well done.

I typically can't stand and havent read many biographies outside of required reading, so what would be a good recommendation to give one another try on the genre? Smile

50 Shades of Grey Review

Seriously, it is a must read (the review, NOT the book). Hilarious, on point and skewering--it made me cackle out loud.

And the gifs? Died. Especially the Prince one.

My reading drought has ended, mostly cuz school starts next Friday and my window of free time is rapidly closing! *weeps softly*

A week before last, I slammed Hold Me Closer, Necromancer

On the bookshelf - Page 5 9780312674373

and Crazy Enough: A Memoir.

On the bookshelf - Page 5 Crazy_Enough_A_Memoir-72173

A few weeks ago I finally read Bossy Pants. Last week I read Kitty Steals the Show. This week I finished Ill Wind by Rachel Caine. It probably isn't for everyone, but the plot includes Djinn (one of my favorite mythological creatures) and inspired me to blow the dust off my novel and feverishly write!

I am currently reading The Obsidian Blade, which is kinda cool so far, but I just mistakenly read some of the reviews and am now weary of what is to come. I have a few fluffy urban fantasies sitting on my end table to be read in the next few weeks.

A friend of mine sent me the first three books in PDF form (anyone wants them I can oblige lol) and I agree with that review. The books are just not that good. Also, the grammar nazi in me came out in full, tutting over errant commas, random letters and overuse of the word "fists" (not used in a sexual context of course, but in phrases like "he fists her hair" lolwut?)

If that is what passes for a best seller these days, then I know what my next book is going to be Razz

Question Does E. L. James know what fisting is?? "He fists her hair"??? lmao umm, how?

And yep, I may need to reconsider my current writing project. I can write some hot scenes, believe you me. But my characters do not include bumbling idiotic, inexplicably virginal females and emotionally retarded/abusive males. No best seller for me! Laughing Razz I think none for you either Bekah. Sorry, smart writers need not apply. Laughing The masses are looking for writers who can overlook common sense and basic grammar.

Very rarely does a book make me laugh out loud while reading it to the point where I have to put it down to wipe the tears from my eyes so I can continue reading.

This one has passages that do that to me.

Catch-22
by
Joseph Heller

Just re-read it.

Love that novel.

Off the top of my head the only other written work that I can recall that did that to me was the screenplay/script for

The Odd Couple.

I've been on a massive science kick in the last few months. The last book I completed was the Grand Design, by Stephen Hawking. It's a fantastic introduction into pretty much all things science, good for the laymen as well as the more informed type. It goes into detail in quantum mechanics and M-theory, and explains how a universe can indeed come from nothing, without ever leaving you feel left behind.

Currently halfway through the Lonely Planets by David Grinspoon. An astrobiology book basically, that details the history of and science behind the exploration for extra-terrestrial life. Is very interesting so far, taught me quite a few new things, but still only half way through.

Ahh Look at that! I started that book in November? Cool! Currently finishing "Stone of Tears" which is the 2nd book in the above series and about start Blood of the fold.

I went into my local bookshop to get the Blood of the fold and the layout was rearranged and I COULD NOT find the science fiction section so I asked some employee where the Lord Of The Rings -ish books were and he showed me and didnt leave me before trying to sell my fucking bookset of the hobbit and the three LoTRs books. Dean Koontz - any of his I think are great. If you've not read the Odd Thomas series, I'd recommend them but he has many others.
