PC Hardware question - Dorks Only!

Ok, I am trying to extend the life of my system a bit. Couple years I'll wind up buying or building a new one.

My pc had 3 gigs ram, 1 X2Gb and 1 X1Gb.

I just plopped a 2Gb into the slot the 1 used to be in, and its registering 4 gigs fine, but wont go into dual channel. I know, should have gotten 2 sticks bla bla; but like I said I'm just trying to extend the life a bit on this and DDR2 is getting expensive since its now a relic of the past.


And yea, I messed around in BIOS and couldn't find anything useful. CPU-Z and the POST screen both say single channel, it runs fine; no fires or smoke

Timings match up ect, But in CPU-Z I notice that the 'new' RAM lists 2 JEDEC frequencies while the older original RAM lists 3. Also, even before I place the new ram in it was running at 333mhz, even though its pc2-6400 (400mhz)....
Still running at 333...


So, I'm kinda at my limit here regarding time/energy/money. Anyone who knows about this crap, would be helpful.

Is it something simple, like a voltage thing I gotta mess with in the BIOS; or simply getting same brand mem. stick?

and finally, is it even worth the trouble just to get dual channel?

My not at all useful answer is you should use the same brand memory or risk not booting up/BSOD/Explosions.

was just hoping to get lucky and get it to dual channel, but now im thinking the stock RAM might not even be capable...

That doesn't look like a constructive thread where you give an explanation of your problem but I must say that the English censors close/ban very fast...

To answer on your RK topic: I don't have problems with RK for now, but a while ago, I got for 2 days security warnings when going to RK.
