In discussing books that are actually interesting to read and are not too terribly contradictory, I am currently reading 'Player One' by Douglas Coupland. It is superb!! I fully recommend it. It is called "a novel in five hours", because it tells the story of four people within five hours. It is taking me longer than five hours to read.

Seamus Heaney - New Selected Poems, 1966 - 1987. Was given the book by some shameless do-gooder (he loves me really) and well, it isn't too bad, I don't always get it, but some of the stuff is quite descriptive and evocative.

Oh I also picked up a copy of the River Cottage Meat Book the other day, I found it to be rather lovely. I made a variation of their Citrus Braised Lamb Shanks with Cannellini beans and veggies for Valentines day this year and it was quite the hit.

Just finished Thomas Harris "Hanniball". It did leave an impression, although wouldnt read it second time because of it.

Now, I'm starting Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn "The Gulag Archipelago" (Архипелаг ГУЛАГ), as I just did find that book, accidently, when visiting my grandparents

I read the first book of the Gulag Archipelago, all 620 pages of it in about 3 weeks, it was a crazy read. I really enjoyed it though I'm going to have to pick up the second part of it and finish it up. Some of the shit in the book just made me cringe, I dont really know how people could do the things they did to another living being. I usually bring this book up when any of my old commie friends start talking about how awesome the USSR was lol.

I just started reading the Fables graphic novels. It is my first go around with graphic novels. I used to have an aversion to reading books with pictures. But I actually really liked it! I will continue the series for sure.

I need to explore Neal Stephenson, The Gunslinger by Stephen King and The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde.

Finished Ellroy's "Black Dahlia" - quite interesting "neo-noir" detective story.

lol good luck once you get towards the end and have to deal with 20,000 Cao's and Wu's to keep track off. Was a pretty interesting read when I did go through it back in the day.


lets see I have been a busy guy lately so my pace of books hasnt been as fast as it usually would be. Right now I'm reading the Pillars of the Earth right now, and so far I'm enjoying it though I thought that something in the beginning was really odd but I wont say what just in case someone wants to read it. Before that I read "the Path Between the Seas" which was the story of the building of the Panama Canal " both the disastrous French attempt and how the Americans went about it"

the last two books before that one was "Bonfire of the Vanities" and "Lonesome Dove" two very well written books that I would recommend anyone pick up if you have the time " Bonfire is around 700 pages and LD is a few pages longer then 1000 but they both go pretty fast imo"

Now halfway through the Diceman, which so far is great. It's about a psychologist who begins living his life by the roll of a dice.

And I've began my reread of A Song of Ice and Fire, solely because I'm missing that damn dwarf and spider.

The book i'm reading right now is called Soldiers of Fortune by Tony Geraghty. It's an interesting history of PMC's in Africa/Asia/Iraq/Afghanistan.

Probably really fucking boring if you don't care about this sortta thing .

I can't say I'm a huge reader outside of Tolkien. I've read all his published, and unpublished work. Dozens of times.

The only other books that have kept my interest was a series by the author Harry Turtledove, starting with "Into the Darkness" (and about 4-5 after that). It's a neat historic-mirrored fantasy novel, portraying WW2 nations as fictional fantasy ones. Dragons, leviathons, "boom sticks", etc. The main thing I enjoyed though was it was in about 15 or so points of view, switching back and forth throughout the chapters. So first you'll read about a child growing up in a "Poland"-type jewish nation, then a soldier in the "German"-type Hitler nation, and then a Royal in a different nation. All types of different angles that gives you insight on all that's going on. Very well-written.

Technically yes, and the reader has WiFi, and can store videos. But I'm not going to use it that way.

Haven't cracked it open yet. I took Latin in high school for a bit and wish I remember what textbook I used. The textbook's stories all took place in ancient Rome and was a fun read. Barely retained a thing though.

Right now I'm alternating between the book on Catholicism and the Diary of St. Faustina. They're both very nice reads. St. Faustina had a lot of visions and her diary was banned by the Vatican until the late 1970's. She's the story behind this particular painting.

Few days ago, finished the 3rd book of Fifty Shades of Grey...however, definitely for adults and for me unfortunately found myself skipping through, bit repetitive in some chapters.
