| So I decided to GR Grace and worked out a build. If any of you can give some feedback on the build, that would be appreciated She's a dex-based rogue that is both trapmonkey and assassin, on assassin prestige path. I wanted her to still be able to do those high level traps and such. She won't have the DPS that a str-based rogue would have, but I'll live with that. - Quote :

Deadly Shadow Enhancement: Halfling Guile II Questions: 1. Should I put all level points into DEX instead of dropping a few in INT? I know ordinarily it's all in DEX on this kind of rogue, but with the 32 pt and the additional dex enhancements, I thought it might balance okay. If it can be lower and still have me reliably able to snag the traps at end game, then I'll switch the points to DEX for the finesse. (I use a rapier and either a dagger or shortsword off-hand.) 2. Should I switch the order of my feats around a bit? In part they are based on stat prereqs, but a few could be messed with, and I'm not entirely sure what will be most useful mid game compared to end game. Thanks all!

| I'm just wondering why you have put so many points into wisdom. If I were you, I'd dump them all and add them all into STR, or maybe a couple into STR and a couple into DEX. The only benefit a higher Wis gets you is a better spot, but with plus items in that, and the +2 tome at level 8 you should have enough.
A High Int is useful for Rogues, so I wouldn't dump that stat at all.

| Thanks for the advice Zog I forgot to put my WIS question in there, actually. I'm not sure what I really need on that as far as end game content and spot ability. I have seen advice that I shouldn't dump it entirely, but should max it at 12 for end game because of epic content. I don't know, having never played epic with my rogue. With it as a dump stat, figuring the +2 tome, what gear will I need, reasonably? Obviously a +15 Spot item, but what else is likely needed as a boost? Also, why add them all or half into STR if it's a DEX based rogue? And if I split them, why not DEX and a few in CON? (Really asking, I hope no one thinks my questions indicate lack of appreciation.) | |

| Nice build, a couple things: taking toughness that early: this wont be a noticeable help early on. If you took it later on the toughness would be instantly noticeable and helpful. I think if you take toughness at level 1 it only gives you 1 extra HP. But, since you are G-reincarnating, I think that it is probably fine where it is. The WIS issue: The problem is, on epics and some high level elites, my ranger can't spot traps at that score. ranger have a +10 spot spell that stacks, can only cast it on myself; but needless to say i cant spot many of them. I wear +15 and i get GH selr casted, makes my spot around 50 or so and i still cant spot many of them. So, I would be inclined to say that you should dump WIS for this reason. Why? Because in epics its going to be expected of you (and everyone) to know where the traps are. You will need a high SEARCH to find the box, that is what people will expect of you. If you know the trap is there, and know where the box is, technically you do not need SPOT at all. A spot of 0 with a high search will find the traps and more importantly, the trap boxes. My decent search of 35 cannot find any boxes at all on epic. I know where they all are, but no way i can search them. I would take IC: piercing earlier, that will benefit your damage a lot. With a low STR, you will rely on critical and sneak attacks for most of your damage. If you decide to dump WIS, I would put it into CON and DEX. This build will focus on rapiers only, and when this build gets to epics it will use heavy picks which do the MOST damage in epics out of any weapon (arguably, as this is only consideration for monster that are held). Just to let you know, weapon finesse makes your to hit modifier for certain weapons become your DEX modifier. However, all your damage, on any weapon whether weapon finesse or not, is based off your STR modifier. So with weapon finesse and a high DEX, you will hit your enemies. But, with a low STR, you will not hurt them as much. I've never taken weapon finesse myself, from what I've heard they are usually TWF dex based AC builds. About your question, putting the level ups into INT; personally I wouldnt put the level ups there. with a +6 INT item you'd get it up to 24 INT without any level ups. Those 5 level ups might be better use in STR, CON, or even more DEX. Bella probably be more help, she has a capped rogue. | |

| Mine is more of a strength based rogue, so I guess my tendency is to go for that. However, as you clearly stated ( ) that this is a dex build, don't worry about it! I put enough into Dex to get Greater TWF and all my level ups went into STR except for one into DEX. If you're running around Vale, Assassinate (Assassin II) will be your best friend, and it works more often than not. Same goes for Shavarath, although by then you should have free vorpals (Assassin III). Rogues often lead the kill count in Vale and Shavarath quests for that reason! So learn to be sneaky sneaky (I'm just learning now!). Search is an INT based skill so having an INT of 25 ish is good (helps you to get INT runes too) Some of the Inspired Quarter quests have some traps that are pretty hard to find and so you need to try to be able to get your Search into the high 40s by level 18/19 to be able to get them. However, with Greater Heroism (and skill boost?), that's doable normally! Some people say that Wizards with 2 levels of rogue are the best trapmonkeys around, as they can get their search and spot skills higher... Oh and my WIS was not a complete dump stat. I started with 8 - CHA is the total dump one for rogues, even though more cha = better UMD! (can be partially sorted with a +6 cha ring). | |

| Why are you waiting to level 8 to take the +2 tomes, you can use them at level 7.

| Auro is a thief acrobat rogue. With my +15 items (and if I remember my +6 int) on my rogue skills are all high 40's-50's. I also have a high enough umd that I can use raise dead scrolls.
I think I'd dump the haggle skill and put those points into other places. Unless you are going to do UMD, don't bother with a Char tome, and I wouldn't waste money on the Wis one at all.
If you are wanting an assassin rogue, there is a person named Rittz (pretty sure I spelled that right) we call him super rogue, he can pretty much solo mindsunder and is quite likely the DDO version of Chuck Noris. he is all sorts of awesome. I'd suggest talking to him. You can tell him I was bragging about his awesomeness... he's ran with Cari quite a few times, and he'd be able to give you all sorts of tips.

| Since I'm GRing, Sel, it doesn't matter when I take them, because I'm already lvl 15.
Bell, I have so many skill points and they are all maxed, that's why I put points into haggle. There's really no place else useful to put them in. I am maxing UMD as well (again, plenty of points), but basically it's cheaper for me to grab a tome of supreme ability and add to all stats than it is for me to just get tomes for each stat I would need.

| ok I'm gonna be a bit of a pain to your plan, since I discovered how important they are and all that since you'll be dual wielding I would take the two weapon fighting feats sooner. Anto mentioned the toughness thing, and I agree. I'd get to greater 2 weapon fighting as fast as you can really... I'd swap it out for either the finesse or skill mastery. With your end stats, you really wont need the skill mastery. And finesse ... I think another toughness would be better because you will need to be over 400 hp to be not squishy(trust me in shroud, you NEED all the hp you can, they complain about rogues lots). Minos gives you was it 35? Greater false life item 30, and a green steel hp item 45, also get your +6 con asap ...it will help, but ultimately, the more hp the better. Not sure what guile and cunning do, but I may even suggest that you swap them for a toughness enhancement (figured since you don't take the one till lvl 20 it wasn't too important) | |

| The feats are taken literally as soon as they can be. They have prereqs and I can't move them earlier (I tried before to move GTWF earlier and couldn't do it). I can't swap skill mastery for finesse/toughness/GTWF, because skill mastery is one of the rogue feats, not a general. The weapon finesse is basically required for a dex rogue according to all the capped dex rogues I've read/talked to - they're saying that if I don't take weapon finesse, my hit will be lower, and that ends up making the difference between me killing before I get killed.
There's just no way as a dex rogue I'm going to be over 400 hp. I already took all the toughness enhancements (there's only racial toughness I and II; no more available after that). Another toughness feat won't even get me to 400 hp or even close. The guile and cunning add to my sneak attack and flanking bonuses.

| I read that one. Really str vs dex is a personal playstyle choice. I realize that the prevailing wisdom is "oh no, not dex, you'll be gimped horribly!" I disagree, though, since I've seen a lot of dex based rogues kick some ass, and the ones that are running them successfully gave me some great advice. Will I hit for the very best dps? Nope, and I don't much care | |
