Meh, I guess there's a trick to timing this as not working for me. Thanks anyway ^^

| I downloaded DDO yesterday high res/quality/whatever its called. Does anyone know what options are good to play around with? It automatically has set everything to high but I noticed I got ultra high and very high options too. What are the options you don't really need much and what are worth increasing? I figure there's got to be some tips on this somewhere but I can't find anything. Anto recommended to increase the draw distance... I haven't tried it just yet but even yesterday as I checked how the game looks like, compared to the old laptop where I'd just see the creatures when they were a few steps away I could shoot them without them getting me, standing still like fools | |

| some of it is design, not graphics.
if your spot is high, you will see more monsters, this is a skill. some monsters sneak around, and will sneak up on you ect

| While I've lost hope of playing DDO again, I figured I might as well post this. Has anyone else encountered error 417 on the launcher? As soon as I open the launcher, and before I get to type in my login info, it keeps displaying this: Tried the DDO forums, but couldnt get a fix for it. So if anyone could get around that problem, please let me know how. | |

| There's a few answers if you Google "HTTP status 417 DDO." Here's one: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=244531
From the few answers I've seen, it seems to be a router/proxy/firewall issue. :/
You probably already tried that but...

| Yeah, tried that. It's not a router/proxy/firewall issue, tried connecting without any of those getting in the way and it still shows the same error. My ISP tells me it's nothing on their end, they are not blocking any ports (of course, what else would they tell me), and the turbine support says in the FAQs that it's a problem on the client's end. So I'm basically screwed. | |

| Just a bit of advice for our melee classes: As you level up, you'll encounter different monsters. You should begin around level 10 or so to have sets of weapons on hotbar for specific situations. It sounds like a pain, having to switch weapons, but it will pay off! For example, my level 20 ranger has 2 bows: 1 bow is paralyzing is crowd control (precise shot means 1 arrow can hit many targets!) 1 bow is green steel for damage He ALSO has many sets of weapons (2 weapon fighting): 1 damage set (+5 icy burst + shocking burst + pure good / +5 icy burst + holy + pure good) 1 construct set (+5 metalline + pure good / +5 metalline + deception) 1 undead set (two random weapons with disruption, got this for the festival and works good) 1 vorpal set (both are +2, decent swords) That's 10 weapons total I have quick access to, and I'm looking to make or buy another set of heavy picks for epic questing. Also one day will make an epic bow... I usually use my bow until range is not possible or it would make the mobs run away from the rest of the party (kiting). Then, depending on the mob i'll use whatever melee set for the situation; ie: high hit point trash mobs: vorpal constructs/golems/vampires: construct set undead: guess boss/red named/low hit point mobs: damage set (i use my bow with silver/cold iron arrows against some bosses) You will save yourself a lot of grief in the long run by investing in different set of weapons for varying situations. Hope this helps! | |

| I think its painfully obvious to everyone how much of a noob i still am.. But im making some sort of progress at least So my question today is.. i can't pick the right class and wanted to know which would be good for me to choose. I want to be able to survive Simple as that, with my fighters i was able to pwn at lvl 1 but i barely improved since then. hitting only a little bit better at lvl 4, but only a bit. With my melee ranger (basically walking into a fail) he sucks (lvl 6) he can't hit as hard as my lvl 3 fighter xD and he dies alot more often too.. so.. emm, he sucks My clerics were only low levels but i dont want a cleric i dont think. I wanna get into the action. I had a sorcerer but below lvl 5 i think, i've been told they can be epic at high lvls.. But i want all your guys advice, and which stats and feats i should choose please Noob 4life xD | |

| Don't reinvent the wheel.
Also, don't expect too much out of low level characters - they all get pwned - part of the learning process...
Take a look at some solid character builds from other players.
My recommendation: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=173046
Also helps to have the best equipment you can afford.
Your mileage may vary. | |

| To fill the requirements you asked for, yes, paladin would be perfect, depending on the build. They can wear heavy armor, hit pretty hard, and heal/buff themselves. The amazon build is also nice, it's the one I'm following now. But it's not very good at surviving until you hit the higher levels (or maybe that's just me, lol). Also, my problem with connecting seems to be solved, at least I could login today and play. Thanks everyone for helping with tips and advice. | |

| Glad you found the link useful.
I've based two of my characters on those guy's builds and I haven't been disappointed.

Clerics can get in on the action at low levels if you like to hit stuff. Buff up with bulls strength and wade in. Hit a room with soundburst. Smack the undead with a turn. Command an ogre. Swing your axe ^^ If people are expecting you to save them in a melee with a non-boss because they're playing recklessly and didn't top up with a potion beforehand or use an available shrine, let them die. Or tell them to pop a pocket hireling if that's their style of play.

| If I remember rightly, go to www.ddo.com then select My Account at the top. This takes you to your turbine account page after you have logged in with your ddo account name and password. From there you can make your forum account. I don't remember all the steps but I think that is the route to go. | |

| I'm losing faith with Turbine. I tried to create an account numerous times, and no dice. I spent an evening a week ago trying to buy stuff, and it wouldn't let me do that either. I shall persist. | |
